Start your engines! New Automotive pathway revs into action at The Academy Grimsby

We’ve added a brand new automotive course to our vocational pathway options and applications for 2021 are now open!

Do you have a passion for cars or want to work in a growing industry that’s actively looking for a more skilled workforce? Our operational workshops located at Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education (GIFHE) are kitted out with everything you would find in a professional garage.

Deputy Principal, Matthew Holness said: “This is a first for The Academy Grimsby and a first for the area. No other 14-16-year-old academy offers an opportunity like this. It’s completely unique.”

During the automotive course you will learn a variety of skills including:

  • How to change tyres
  • How to work on brakes, suspensions, chassis frames, engines, transmission systems and servicing
  • Projects working on electric and hybrid vehicles

Lee Carr the pathway tutor said: “We’ve just been awarded a series of grants that will see our workshops receive some really exciting updates. They will be upgraded to accommodate new hybrid and cutting-edge electric vehicles as well as high-tech new ramps.” So it’s the perfect time to apply for our automotive pathway!

Once you’ve completed the course, you’ll receive a Level 2 certificate in light vehicle maintenance. Giving you a huge head-start if you’re looking to pursue a career in automotive engineering. It’s a fantastic opportunity to get ahead in a really employable industry.

Matthew added: “If any current year nine or year 10 students – or their parents or guardians – are interested in finding out more, please do get in touch to arrange a tour or virtual tour. The facilities are world-class and really need to be seen to be believed.”

If this sounds like the perfect pathway for you…
