As the latest game in one of the world’s biggest franchises – Pokémon – prepares to blast onto our screens, Grimsby’s gamers are being encouraged to snap up the opportunity of a lifetime in our very own “world-class” games design facility.
New Pokémon Snap is the latest game in the worldwide phenomenon and due to drop later this month, with hundreds of thousands of people expected to set out on the nostalgic adventure picturing pocket monsters on a virtual journey through the Pokémon world.
Like the 1999 original on the Nintendo 64, the new Nintendo Switch game relies on the hard work and ingenuity of developers who all started out learning the basics of games design before going on to create modern masterpieces.

Our campus is home to North East Lincolnshire’s only immersive Creative, Digital and Games pathway open to any young person interested in pursuing a career in the industry as it continues to grow and provide amazing employment opportunities across the world.
What will I learn?
Describing why the course is always popular, Matthew Holness, deputy principal, said: “Year-on-year, our Creative, Digital and Games pathway grows in popularity as prospective learners realise the wide-ranging opportunities that training in this field can offer.
“Designing games often feels like a limited option in terms of careers with many believing that only a tiny fraction of people can succeed. However, our course utilises the appeal of games from all eras and genres as a way to learn new skills directly and indirectly linked to the industry.
“We also cover several essential skills for the industry on the course ranging from video production, photography techniques and animation techniques to print production, writing for the creative media and audio production.
“We find our creative learners are always across the latest advancements in games and games design. We want them to use their love of gaming to remain engaged in education with the prospect of amazing careers to follow.”

The Creative, Digital and Games pathway is perfect for anyone wanting to move into games design, photography, journalism, design and web development – all of which are growing, diverse fields.
Alongside the games design learning, course modules include English for Journalists and Maths in Games Development to allow learners to continue to develop in core subjects while pursuing their passion.
