Engineering pathway

The Engineering Pathway is a practical work-related programme for those interested in an Engineering career.

The Engineering Pathway covers a wide range of Engineering topics and activities, including workshop skills such as using hand tools and making Engineering products.

BTEC Firsts are Level 2 qualifications designed to provide specialist work-related qualifications in a range of sectors.

They give you the knowledge, understanding and skills that you need to prepare for further education or employment.

The core units provide you with the basic knowledge and understanding of the Engineering sector. The Engineering World unit will enable you to investigate engineering processes used to manufacture products from different manufacturing sectors.

You will study mandatory units to develop further knowledge and understanding in, for example, Engineering materials and Maths for Engineers, and also develop skills and explore attributes needed in the Engineering sector. The mandatory units also help to build and develop employability skills and knowledge which are very transferable across other areas of work.

You will also study a number of optional specialist units which have a closer focus on a vocational area and give you the opportunity to explore an area of interest in greater depth, including CAD. Some of these units will be taught by specialists at the Grimsby Institute’s outstanding Engineering Centre.
