Remembrance Day Tribute at The Academy Grimsby

On Friday, November 8, 2024, The Academy Grimsby held its first whole-school Remembrance Day ceremony, a heartfelt tribute to those who have served and sacrificed for our country. The event was marked by a profound sense of unity and pride, as students, staff, and cadets came together to honour the bravery of our armed forces.

Jake Gittens, Sport and Academic Pathway Teacher, expressed his pride in the students: “I felt incredibly proud of our students today. This being our first time holding such an event on a whole-school level made it particularly special. Watching our cadets stand tall in their uniforms alongside staff members who have served brought a sense of unity and pride that resonated with everyone present. For many, it was a meaningful moment to honour loved ones who have served or are currently serving, creating a powerful connection across our school community. I’m genuinely excited to see this continue as an annual whole-school event. It’s a valuable opportunity for us to come together in respect and remembrance, and I look forward to seeing its impact grow each year.”

Matt Holness, Principal of The Academy Grimsby, shared his reflections on the ceremony: “It was a real privilege to participate in our Remembrance Day Ceremony here at The Academy Grimsby, and a powerful reminder of the courage of those that gave so much, and of those that continue to serve.”

Students also voiced their feelings about the event. Kane, a Year 10 student, stated, “I feel proud to have been part of The Academy Remembrance event and proud to respect people who fought for our country.” Similarly, Matthew, a Year 11 student, added, “I am proud to wear my uniform and respect the fallen soldiers from the world wars.”

This event not only commemorated the sacrifices of the past but also fostered a sense of community and respect among students and staff alike. As we look forward to making this an annual tradition, we invite everyone at The Academy Grimsby to join us in honouring those who have served and continue to serve our nation.
