Live Your Best Life: from the health & care pathway to studying criminology & psychology at Sheffield Hallam University
Lauren Charlton graduated from The Academy Grimsby’s health and care pathway in 2018, moving on to study for her A Levels at Career 6. Having achieved three As and an A in her extended project qualification (EPQ), Lauren received unconditional offers from every university she applied for. She’s now excited to start a degree in criminology and psychology at Sheffield Hallam University.
“I took the health and care pathway at The Academy Grimsby. I really enjoyed it and went on to study psychology and sociology at Career 6. And now, I’m moving on to study psychology as part of my degree. So it’s all connected!
“I decided to go to The Academy Grimsby because I was bullied at my last school, so I wanted to go somewhere that was more stable. I’d heard good things about The Academy Grimsby so decided to start the health and care pathway there.
“The teachers were great and they really helped me. My confidence grew and my grades went up straight away. I really did see an immediate difference. Any issues I had were sorted out really quickly. It felt like there was always someone there to help.
“Doing the health and care pathway was great. I really enjoyed it and it made me want to continue on to study at Career 6. Again, I’d heard good things about Career 6 and liked that it was connected to The Academy Grimsby. There’s a small, community feel to The Academy Grimsby and Career 6, with smaller class sizes and one-to-one teaching. It’s a really supportive environment.
“I really wasn’t expecting to do this well in my A Levels! I’m really happy and am going on to study criminology and psychology at Sheffield Hallam University. After that, I’m thinking about embarking on a career in probation.”
